Novel Enabling Technologies for a Sustainable Future: workshop on Energy efficiency | Madrid (Spain)
At the end of January, members of the Centre for Compressor Technology, Ivona Ivkovic-Kihic and Halil Lacevic, attended an impactful workshop organized by FORGING Project in Madrid, Spain. The workshop focused on Energy Efficiency and took place on 30 to 31 January 2025. The goal of the workshop intended to co-define potential use cases in specific application sectors for energy efficiency.
Forging Project
FORGING is a collaborative European initiative that aims to drive innovation in manufacturing by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices. The project focuses on enhancing energy efficiency, digitalization, and automation across various industrial sectors. FORGING seeks to co-develop solutions that optimize industrial processes, reduce environmental impact, and contribute to Europe’s transition towards a greener and more efficient manufacturing landscape. Through workshops, research collaborations, and technology demonstrations, the initiative supports knowledge exchange and the development of novel enabling technologies for a sustainable future.
Experts from various fields
The workshop brought together professionals and experts from diverse fields, including social sciences, economics, engineering, and business. This multidisciplinary approach enables meaningful discussions on energy efficiency and and its application across different industries. Our colleagues had the opportunity to contribute by sharing the latest insights and innovations from the compressor industry, engaging in collaborative discussions, and exploring new perspectives on the role of modern compressor systems in sustainable industrial development.
Europe as the Green Continent
Europe has been at the forefront of global efforts to enhance sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, and promote energy efficiency. With ambitious goals such as the European Green Deal and the drive towards climate neutrality by 2050, the continent continues to lead in developing and implementing innovative solutions for a greener future. Initiatives like the FORGING Project play a crucial role in this transition by enabling collaboration among experts, industries, and policymakers to optimize energy use and suggest technological advancements. By prioritizing energy efficiency and sustainable practices, Europe is shaping a resilient and environmentally responsible industrial landscape.
Making the difference
A key part of the workshop involved collaborative discussions on potential case studies, where each group selected a specific application and conducted an initial analysis. This process focused on identifying novel technologies that could be applied, exploring how they would be implemented, and evaluating their benefits, drawbacks, and limitations. Halil had the opportunity to present his group’s findings to the other participants, sharing insights on the feasibility and impact of the proposed solutions. These exchanges provided a valuable platform for refining ideas and driving innovation in energy efficiency applications.
Moving forward
The Centre for Compressor Technology will have the opportunity to contribute to the advancement and implementation of the proposed solutions. Ivona and Halil recognized this as a great chance for the Centre to stay at the forefront of emerging green technologies, gaining valuable insights into the evolving landscape of energy-efficient industries. As Industry 5.0 places greater emphasis on sustainability and intelligent manufacturing, this collaboration presents a unique opportunity to position compressor technology within the next generation of energy-efficient solutions.
