Successful 4th Annual Review Meeting for Project SECRET at Howden Factory

The 4th Annual Review Meeting for Project SECRET was help on the 10th September at the Howden, a Chart Industries Company factory in Renfrew.

Our team had the opportunity to present the Year 4 progress to the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) and our mentor, Professor Robert Wood. The feedback from the RAEng team was highly positive, providing us with an incredible boost as we continue working toward our project goals.

In addition to the meeting, we recorded a video update highlighting the key milestones we’ve achieved in Year 4, which will be available soon—stay tuned for more!

In the first four years of the project, we achieved a comprehensive understanding of the physics within leakage gaps, thanks to extensive experimental and numerical investigations. This work has led to over 30 publications in journals and conferences. Using these insights, we developed innovative concepts for the next generation of positive displacement machines, which are now being tested in laboratory prototypes. Full validation of these concepts, along with their integration into commercial machines by our industrial partner, is planned for the project’s final year.

The project also gives us great opportunities to engage with our existing suppliers and new suppliers to integrate the latest developments in their areas of expertise into our products, supported by the project team. Over the last year we have onboarded two suppliers of new surface treatments for our critical components, directly from concepts generated in the project.
