Highlights from the March 2025 CERES Spring Meeting, held at City St George’s
The CERES Consortium gathered on 12–13 March 2025 at City St George’s, University of London, for its annual Spring Meeting. The event brought together researchers and industry partners to share project updates, explore new proposals, and celebrate ongoing collaboration in advancing compressor and expander technologies for future energy systems.
On March 12–13, 2025, Centre for Compressor Technology hosted the Spring Meeting of the CERES Industrial Consortium at City St George’s, University of London. With the theme “Compressors and Expanders in Future Energy Systems”, the event brought together leading experts from academia and industry to discuss groundbreaking research, share insights, and shape the future of compressor technologies.

Meeting kicked off with a welcome from Professor Ahmed Kovacevic, founder of the Centre, followed by updates from ongoing PhD and collaborative research projects. Highlights included presentations on sustainable lubrication, IGSM modelling, heat transfer in oil-free machines, and advanced materials for water-injected compressors—demonstrating the consortium’s commitment to tackling real-world challenges in energy systems.
One of the standout moments was the keynote speech by Professor Vincent Lemort (University of Liège), who highlighted the synergies between heat pumps and Organic Rankine Cycles (ORCs) and the promising avenues for hybridization. His talk was met with enthusiasm and inspired vibrant discussions on system efficiency and innovation.
The first day concluded with a special 30th Anniversary Celebration Dinner honoring the Centre’s legacy of innovation and collaboration.
The second day was all about what’s next. New project proposals were presented by members of the Centre, ranging from hydrogen compressors, AI applications, Digital Twins, to applications of AR/VR technologies and multi-level modelling of leakage flows.
In the words of Hossein, one of our researchers:
“The Spring 2025 CERES event at City St George’s, University of London was nothing short of inspirational and incredibly motivating! 🚀 It was fantastic to join an engaging gathering of industry and academia, where the proposals discussed were truly remarkable and innovative. A huge thank you to all our industrial partners and representatives who joined us from far and near—your contributions made this event truly valuable. A special shoutout to Professor Ahmed Kovacevic for his vision and leadership, and to Ivona Ivkovic-Kihic, whose tireless dedication made this event a success. Your passion and attention to detail truly made all the difference.”
This year’s CERES meeting not only celebrated the past but also paved the way for transformative technologies and collaborations in the compressor industry. We are excited about the future and grateful to all participants who continue to push boundaries with us.
